Political newcomer and local businessman Mark Sheldon was elected Mayor of Panama City Beach on Tuesday night. Polls closing at 7pm had the unofficial results at 1,925 votes or 57% for Sheldon and 1,447 votes or 42%% for former Panama City Beach Council Woman Josie Strange with all precincts reporting. Results will be certified in upcoming days by Mark Andersen, Bay County Supervisor of Elections.
Panhandle Politics reached Sheldon by phone Tuesday evening, “I would like to first thank my family, they’ve been with me every step of this race, and I love them dearly. I also appreciate the confidence and trust the voters of Panama City Beach have placed in me to be their next mayor, it’s truly humbling.” He continued, “I want to thank Josie Strange for her 8 years of service to our city as Council Woman. She ran a spirited yet friendly race, I consider her a friend.” He finished, “It’s now time to plan better, together.”
Sheldon will be sworn into office at the next regular council meeting, Thursday April 23rd at 9am at Panama City Beach City Hall.
